Reels and reels of ribbons!

I've recently got quite into "all things ribbony"! 

I have a huge box full of different colours shapes and sizes that I really must use up and so have been looking at different wedding ideas with ribbons. 

I've recently made a ribbon wall and ribbon bouquet with streamers. 

I've used scraps of ribbons to recycle glass jars into vases and lanterns - an easy project which has an amazing impact when lots of them are used together.

Decorate glass jars with remnants of lace and ribbon for 

a pretty vintage effect

Ribbon walls are becoming more and more popular in the UK -

excellent for outside or festival themed weddings as well as a good cover up for

unsightly wallpaper etc. or just to add a fun backdrop to a photo wall! 

Be warned though - to make a successful one you will need about 200 meters of ribbon!!

Just a simple contrasting ribbon on a satin chair sash makes a 

clean and simple statement

Thread a garland with ribbon or lace as an alternative to string or cord. 

I love this use of ribbons, to add accent colour to a satin table runner.

Rosenations - cross between roses and carnations...

I was asked to make a wedding posy for a bride who suffers dreadfully with hayfever. She is getting married in May and wants something quite simple.

She's not really into bling - so the heirloom vintage brooch posies I make are out of the question, so I have been busy making several differenct kinds of flowers from paper and fabric to see what I come up with...

 

Paper roses and carnations - I might put these together and call them "Rosenations"!

Here are some I've been making and am going to add buttons and beads to and assemble into a posy...

Alternative Bridal Bouquet....

Hi everyone! just popping by the blog to show you what i've been making whilst relegated to the sofa through illness!

I am going to be making a collection of heart shaped bridal bouquets and this is the first one...

 

 I used a florist heart garland and covered it with netting - i then painstalkingly sewed on each individual mother of pearl button and diamante brooch!

Some lovely sparkles on here from Victorian to modern day.

Purple Bride

The colour of Cadburys Purple seems to be very popular amongst brides at the moment. I remember my freind had it many years ago - with huge purple anemomes stitched under the toille of her dress and I hand painted her wedding shoes to match!

This is the latest purple posy I've made...

Fit for Downton Abbey

OK... I know it's not real... and it's only a TV programme... but I am soooooooooo excited about Mary marrying Matthew in Downton Abbey, and when I came across the wonderful brooch to the middle of the posy - I built a Downton Abbey themed posy around it.

Hope you like it as much as I do!

I have used both vintage and antique jewellery, buttons and dress trim in it's construction.
The central brooch is left unfixed to the bouquet (so that you can unpin it each year and wear it on your anniversary, or other special occassions, to remind you of your special day).
There is a small gold glass button to the centre of each rose. 

A real silver thread, dress trim, from the 1930's edges each rose and over time this trim has gained a wonderful goldish patina. Mother of pearl buttons and clear glass buttons fill any gaps.
This is a very special, one of a kind, posy - just waiting for a "Mary" to marry her "Matthew" in true Downton Abbey Style!
